Bacardi, who’s the daughter of Bacardi chairman Facundo L. Bacardi, started playing at 5 on a whim. The family belongs to Riviera Golf Course in Coral Gables and none of the other sports Bacardi tried were sticking, so she decided to give golf a shot.
It turned out pretty well. She has been a varsity player since she was in sixth grade and she made it to a state championship before she even began high school. “I just thought it was fun because it was just a really big game and it was longer, obviously, than any other sport,” Bacardi said. “I really loved all the aspects of it like the short game, the long game — I kind of liked how you had to use your mind for it.”
