Holocaust Survivor David Schaecter visits Palmer Trinity School
Today, Palmer Trinity School had the honor of welcoming Holocaust survivor David Schaecter. Mr Schaecter shared his story, and answered questions from the student body. He welcomed students by greeting and hugging them, reminding them of their role in preventing antisemitism. Born in Czechoslovakia in 1929, Mr. Schaecter was 11 years old when he was taken by a cattle car to Auschwitz with his mother, two younger sisters and older brother. Four years later, as the lone survivor of a large family, Mr. Schaecter managed to escape the Germans during an attack by Allied troops on the train transferring him to another concentration camp. Schaecter has been a resident of Miami since 1956. He has been actively involved in the local and national Jewish community for more than sixty years and is a founder of the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach and the March of the Living. Schaecter has devoted countless hours to educating the community. (Photos by Blanca Morales, Marketing & Communications Manager)
